A long, long time ago in a quiet historical town with a lack of culture, a young boy was leaving for a land far, far away. He wanted to make his last summer in this little metropolis really count! The last 4 years were memories of a mountain of bottle caps of the same homogenous mass produced beers. He wanted to explore new and exciting aromas, and ingredients that would soothe his curious palate. So off he went, in search with his friends a beer that would forever change the pleasure of beer drinking.

On this journey he encountered many types of beer. This ones too bland he cried! And he would try another. This one is too acidic! This one has no hops! And on and on this went until one day, a micro-brewed beer that was just right. There was something about the taste, the aroma, the color that moved the soul. Art in bottle! The whole summer of discovering grew his young boys beard and hair long, put hair on his chest and a passion for the art of great beer. He left for the end of the world and spent four cold years tasting, designing, and loving beer. The foreign land granted him a college degree, many new friends, and a love for the northern country.

But the art of beer kept calling his name. Back at the metropolis he had a vision. A vision that would become his own pride and joy. A little microbrewery called Dark Horse Brewing Company. A place that looked like a garage sale puked within its walls. A place that the ceo, factory worker, fisherman, truck driver, could go because within these walls the biggest, and boldest beers become a fresh and unique for those that are willing to seek it.

4-18-08  We're gonna give you our Rod...

"Those jokesters in Marshall are at it again. Dark Horse Brewing co. has a new beer for the late spring and early summer . This may, look for Rod. That's right, Rod. Rod is a refreshing, medium bodied red ale brewed with aphrodisiac herbs for woman and men alike. Brewer Russ Beattie was working on his own version of Sex Panther, using passion flower, epimedium, damiana, and ginko to elevate the levels of spring time friskiness and brewmaster Aaron Morse decided that the best way to spread the love was via Rod. " -Bil

It's brewed!! Watch here or on B.A. for a list of bars that will have it in 2-3 weeks.

Heavy metal machine!
We took some metals at the World Expo Of Beer in Glorious Frankenmuth this past weekend. Sapient Trip Ale took a Silver and the Double Crooked Tree took Bronz. We tried swopping our Bronz for King Brewing Co.'s fancy Gold metal (best fruit beer) but they put it away before we could get sneaky  enough. Next year I'm going to have a metal to award Dark Horses biggest drunk. The unofficial standings would be: 2005-Mike,  2006-Mike, 2007-Aaron

Thats right Aaron and Matt (from The Corner) wrote a recipe (we're not telling you what) and each brewer will travel to the others brewery to brew it. It will be on tap and in stores in MI, IN, and WI in mid-late June. Check out our events page for details on the release partys at Dark Horse and The Corner, it's gonna be absurdely crazy
