7-14-08 Hello, Dark Horse friends, patrons, lovers and haters. We have some good news and some bad news here at the Horse. The good news is we will be doing a small remodeling project in our taproom next Sunday and Monday the 20th and 21st-all in an effort to serve all of you better. The bad news is we will be closed both of those days (sigh) as part of the remodel is to tear apart our backbar leaving no way to dispense our liquid love. We will re-open on Tuesday, July 22nd at our usual 3pm opening time. We apologize in advance to anyone who is inconvenienced by this and thank all of you for your support in making the Dark Horse what it has become. As an addendum to this, we will be opening for lunch at noon on Saturdays starting August 2nd, and will also be opening for lunch everyday at 11am starting Monday, August 18. As always, we are striving to make your Dark Horse experience the best it can be. 7-9-08 As always sorry for the short notice...Dark Horse is being featured all week (this week) at The Hop Cat in Grand Rapids! We will have several beers on tap all week, with live music on Thursday from Scotty Karate and Co-Pilot. Friday we're doing a very exclusive firkin of Boffo's nutty little brother at 5pm and Sunday we're doing a beer dinner. The dinner will be a 4 course paired with our ipa, rasp, rod, and sapient and for dessert we are opening some 2008 Double Crooked Tree, 3 Guy Barley Wine, and Plead the 5th Imperial Stout. I'll be there all 3 days handing out some swag and Russ (and maybe Wiggs)will join us for the dinner to talk about the beers and other nonsense stuff. It will be fun...join us! -M 7-7-08 Hey Beer world! Brian Wiggs formally of Arcadia Brewing Company has been added to the Dark Horse Brewery team. We look forward to his added knowledge and passion for the elixere that we take pride in at Dark Horse Brewing Company. Welcome to the team, "Wiggs". Dark Horse also would like to welcome Travis "Vart" Glenn as General Manager stop in to the taproom and give Trav a big hug. 4-18-08 We're gonna give you our Rod... "Those jokesters in Marshall are at it again. Dark Horse Brewing co. has a new beer for the late spring and early summer . This may, look for Rod. That's right, Rod. Rod is a refreshing, medium bodied red ale brewed with aphrodisiac herbs for woman and men alike. Brewer Russ Beattie was working on his own version of Sex Panther, using passion flower, epimedium, damiana, and ginko to elevate the levels of spring time friskiness and brewmaster Aaron Morse decided that the best way to spread the love was via Rod. " -Bil It's brewed!! Watch here or on B.A. for a list of bars that will have it in 2-3 weeks. 3-28-08 Dark Horse to be at the Hopleaf in Chicago Hold onto your hats Chicago! The wind is blowing in Big Maniac Mike DH Rep and Russell the Love Mussell Brewer to Andersonville for a beer tasting at the Hopleaf. Stop in on Wednesday, April 2nd between 7pm and 9pm to sample some of the good stuff. Five beers will be on tap, especially our BIG spring specialty, Sapient Trip Ale. Hope to see you there! Holy Wah, ei? 3-10-08 Double Crooked Tree in the "D" This Saturday Mar. 15th, from 9pm until 12am we will be at Foran's bar in downtown Detroit having the official Double Crooked Tree IPA release party. We've spent the last few days partying in Colorado for the Great American Beer Fest. We had a great time visiting breweries, eating good food, and drinking far too much good beer. The icing on the cake was winning a couple medals at the GABF! We won the Bronze medal for the Three Guy Off The Scale Barley Wine and the Silver medal for Scotty Karate Scotch Ale!!! What a great feeling, to win an award in Denver with so many other great beers and breweries. Scotty Karate is availible now and Three Guy B. Wine will be out in Feb./March (yes, we will make a bunch of it). 7-20-07 Tres Blueberry Stout won the gold metal in the Indiana Beer Cup!! Look for this beer to be out in Nov. or Dec. 5-23-07 Heavy metal machine! We took some metals at the World Expo Of Beer in Glorious Frankenmuth this past weekend. Sapient Trip Ale took a Silver and the Double Crooked Tree took Bronz. We tried swopping our Bronz for King Brewing Co.'s fancy Gold metal (best fruit beer) but they put it away before we could get sneaky enough. Next year I'm going to have a metal to award Dark Horses biggest drunk. The unofficial standings would be: 2005-Mike, 2006-Mike, 2007-Aaron 5-01-07 The Dark Corner Project We have teamed up with The Corner Brewery (Arbor Brewing) to be completely original and blow your freaking minds. Here's the skinny-1 recipe, 2 brewers with passion, 2 completely different brew systems, one crazy beer. Thats right Aaron and Matt (from The Corner) wrote a recipe (we're not telling you what) and each brewer will travel to the others brewery to brew it. It will be on tap and in stores in MI, IN, and WI in mid-late June. Check out our events page for details on the release partys at Dark Horse and The Corner, it's gonna be absurdely crazy |
